Bearded Iris 3 For $13.99 Description

Bearded Iris

Bearded Iris, or Iris germanica as it is known botanically, is the most popular and straightforward of all iris plants to grow.

The Bearded Iris has many categories relating to its size, including the miniature, short, intermediate, tall, and border Bearded Iris. Bearded Iris has sword-like leaves with flowers in six drooping lobes. This plant comes in many colors: purple, pink, red, yellow, brown, white, and bi-colored. From nursery starts, Bearded Iris is best planted in the spring and will flower during its first year. If you are planting Bearded Iris from bare roots, it can be planted in the fall or the spring. However, the bare root plants typically will not flower robustly until their second year. Do not allow your domestic cat or dog to eat your Bearded Iris.

Bearded iris care and maintenance

Bearded Iris is easy to grow when planted in a sunny spot in well-drained soil. Bearded iris need full sun to thrive, or they will produce fewer blooms and increase in disease potential. This perennial does not like mulch since its rhizomes will develop rot, so they are best planted in bare soil bare. Space your Bearded Iris plants at least 12 inches apart to prevent the need for frequent dividing. Do not plant in heavy clay soil since Bearded Iris thrives best in gravelly or sandy soil amended with gypsum or organic matter to lighten the soil.

A hardy plant, Bearded Iris doesn’t mind extreme temperatures as long as the soil can drain well. This plant does get damaged in heavy rain or hail and may get iris borer worms. Lifting and dividing them is the best way to keep your Bearded Iris insect free.

Considerations

Bearded Iris makes a bold, beautiful statement in any garden landscape. Bearded Iris will make your garden sanctuary pop with color along a border fence, around a statuette, or as a taller plant among other blooming perennials. Plant them in a variety of colors for profuse and lovely blooms all season long. With proper care and maintenance, your Bearded Iris will be the hit of your growing season.

Bearded Iris is now available for sale at TN Nursery at a low price with fast shipping.
