Blue Joint Grass 25 Plants $79.99 Description

Blue Joint Grass

Blue Joint Grass, also known as Blue Oat Grass, is ornamental grass famous for its blue-green foliage.

This perennial grass plant is evergreen and remains partially evergreen after the season has ended. A clumping plant, Blue Joint Grass, produces shoots of blue-green grass stalks during the spring. In summer, this plant bears blue-green flowers with seeds at the top of the tall grass stalks that appear in groups that gradually turn to a feathery brown plume in fall and seem like oats. Blue Joint Grass seeds will not overtake your garden, so you can plant them near lower flowering plants for visual effect since it is easy to maintain.

Blue joint grass care and maintenance

Blue Joint Grass requires average to dry, alkaline to neutral soil conditions. Plant Blue Joint Grass is drought tolerant yet needs to be planted where the soil can be well-drained since too much water will rot the roots and crowns of this plant. Once established in the ground, watering is minimal; since this plant thrives in the rainfall. Blue Joint Grass thrives best in full sun conditions, in a location that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. You will occasionally need to rake or hand pull dead growth from your Blue Joint Grass plant.

Blue Joint Grass tolerates environmental salt and pollution, making it a terrific choice for planting in urban environments. However, this plant does not enjoy hot or humid summer seasons as a cool season ornamental grass. If grown in the wrong conditions and climate, the Blue Joint Grass plant may not flower.

Considerations

Pests and disease are not a problem for Blues Joint Grass, though they can develop rust in too-humid conditions. When planting, space the plants far enough, at least three feet apart, so they have good airflow and do not build tar spot.  Blue Joint Grass Plant will add beauty and variety to your home garden landscape. Plant them as a border or whole row as a beautiful accent to your sidewalk or driveway.
