Easy Ground Covers To Grow
Your landscape plants are essential to your home's appearance and curb appeal. Sometimes, you will have areas in your yard filled with soil and empty of plant material. In addition, you might have a large slope that is hard to maintain, and here is where ground covers are perfect for filling these voids. The most accessible ground covers to grow are:
Vinca minor is a ground cover that is easy to grow and maintain. It grows best in full sun, although it can tolerate shade for short periods. You can grow it directly from seed or cuttings. Be careful not to overwater the plants significantly if you're growing them from seed. It can be propagated easily from stem tip cuttings, which should be taken when the new growth emerges. It would help to place these cuttings in water immediately after cutting to help them root faster.
2. Partridgeberry
Partridgeberry is a beautiful ground cover to use in the garden. It has a beautiful, entire green appearance and is loved by butterflies and hummingbirds. Partridgeberry is also relatively easy to take care of, making it perfect for those who have busy lives and not much free time. It forms a mat of foliage that can spread up to 2 feet across and reaches heights of 6 inches. It has bright green leaves that are heart-shaped. The leaves help make the plant stand out when they turn red or orange during the winter months. The flowers are white with purplish streaks and form clusters at the end of the stems.
3. English Ivy
English ivy is a vigorous and easy-to-grow ground cover perfect for the beginning gardener. It proliferates, spreading over the ground and making an attractive mat as it goes. It needs little to no maintenance, and while it can be invasive in some areas, it is certainly manageable.
