Description

Carpet Moss Plant Description

There are about eighty species of mosses, and carpet moss is one genus of these species. Scientifically, it is called genus Hypnum, and in the habitats where it grows, it forms dense green mats, usually in decaying woods and other moist areas. A few species of carpet moss are aquatic. The carpet moss plant has been used to stuff beddings since it was believed to induce sleep. When used in a garden scene, the plant adds a sense of calm, sense, and age, making it a preference over other types of grasses. The carpet moss plant has continued to gain popularity among landscapers and individuals looking to decorate their landscape.

The carpet moss plant reproduces uniquely, whereby the male and the female organs can be indifferent plants or the same plant. It is either sexual or asexual reproduction that distinguishes it from the others. These plants are well adapted to these forms of reproduction, and under favorable conditions, they highly reproduce. Carpet moss forms a well-knit dark green carpet, and as it ages, the color changes into a hue. Its carpet makes it attractive and can beautify certain areas due to its short growth length and velvety appearance, confusing one for carpet grass.

Most people tend to use the carpet moss plant in their landscaping because it is low maintenance, requires less water, and is well adapted to resist drought. These characteristics make the plant thrive in different environments as long as the minimum conditions for its thriving are met. Most carpet moss sellers ensure that their clients are satisfied when they receive the plants. They also go a step further and provide planting instructions for the client. When settling for the carpet moss plant, one can choose to get them from the nearby area they are invading or make a purchase from a reputable vendor. Planting them and properly maintaining them will make your landscape very attractive.
