Description

Hepatica Nobilis is also known as the Liverwort or Liverleaf and is native to Eastern North America

It reaches 12 inches of height at maturity. It adds bright blue or lavender blooms that announce the beginning of spring. This plant takes care of itself, requiring little to no maintenance, and will reward you with star-shaped flowers each spring! Hepatica is a small genus of flowering plants native to woodlands in Asia and Eastern Europe. The flowers are usually bluish to violet in color, although some white forms exist and are 6-10 mm wide. Flower color is not the only trait that may vary among species. Some plants offer three petals, and others have six, with a few species offering both varieties on the same plant in varying numbers. The Hepatica is a lovely choice for garden and shaded locations as it establishes into a beautiful plant. It does not require intensely rich soil but establishes well in organically rich locations.

Hepatica Plants are also called Round Leaf Hepatica

It prefers loamy, moist, and acidic soil found in woodlands but grows well in gardens and backyards and tolerates alkaline to neutral soil. People buy Hepatica plant varieties worldwide, including Japanese and European double dark shades of a pink flower. The Hepatica plant is a low-maintenance plant that, once established, does not need much care. It prefers moist soil and does not need to be watered every day---just watered every once in a while helps provide all of the essential nutrients to the plant without letting it dry out. With beautiful colorful flowers, these plants attract wildlife of all sorts, including bees, butterflies, and beetles that help with pollination. The flowers are at their fullest on sunny days and do not bloom on cloudy days, but the plant is capable of self-pollinating, so it’s not solely dependent on cross-pollination by insects.
