Jewelweed 4 For $12.99 Description

Jewelweed, also known botanically as Impatiens capensis, is also referred to as Orange Jewelweed and Spotted Touch-Me-Not.

Jewelweed flourishes in environments other plants can't tolerate, including soggy soil and deep shade. Native to North America, Jewelweed appears to sparkle when wet, hence, its common name. Jewelweed can reach a height of 5 feet tall. This plant bears branching yet weak stems with blue-green, toothed, fuzzy oval leaves. In the summer, Jewelweed bears cornucopia-shaped flowers that turn to seed capsules when mature that split when touched.

Jewelweed care and maintenance

Jewelweed is an easy plant to grow and maintain once it's established. With no peat or disease issues, issues, the dense growth of Jewelweed can help to discourage weed growth. Plant your Jewelweed in an area where the soil remains moist near a garden stream or the bank of a pond. Plant your Jewelweed in organically rich, moist soil with compost in clusters to help form tall clumps that support each other as they develop taller stems. Jewelweed thrives in dappled sun to full shade, tolerating direct morning sun. However, the strong afternoon sun can be too extreme for Jewelweed. Jewelweed will wither if the soil becomes too dry and can survive water-logged soil on occasion. Water your Jewelweed whenever the top inch of soil dries out, and add a layer of mulch to retain soil moisture.

Jewelweed will not thrive in cold temperatures or very dry conditions. Frost can damage or kill this plant. Jewelweed will survive well in fairly hot temperatures in sufficient shade and soil moisture and tolerates humidity. Jewelweed doesn't need fertilizer unless you have poor soil. You can add compost at the time of planting your Jewelweed, then compost again in the summer.

Jewelweed propagates on its own through its explosive seed pods. Pruning seed pods before they mature can help to control their spread. As an ornamental garden grass, Jewelweed is a lovely low-maintenance consideration. Plant it on the border of a small pond or stream where it can receive the moisture it requires. Small birds enjoy nesting and eating the seeds of this plant, helping to reduce its propagation.

Jewelweed is now available at TN Nursery at low prices with fast shipping.
