The Lady Fern can grow to be two to five feet in height. Single fronds can grow to be 10 inches in width and 30 inches in length.

Plant Description: The Lady Fern is a native perennial that grows swordlike foliage in the continental US and Alaska wooded parts. It is a feathery species with bright green, lush leaves known as fronds. Lady Ferns grow in circular clusters forming arch-shaped lacy fronds that thrive in damp, shady areas. Often cultivated for decoration, the Lady Fern also does well in shaded gardens. Lady ferns are easy to care for and do well near evergreens. The Lady Fern grows abundantly with foliage that will last all year long and provide a natural mulch through the winter season. In spring, dead fronds will need to be pruned after new growth has taken place. The Lady Fern will shed its leaves annually, as well. The rhizomes and young leaves of the Lady Fern are edible once cooked.
