Leatherwood Fern 3 For $12.99 Description

Leatherwood Fern

Leatherwood Fern, or Rumohra adiantiformis as it is called scientifically, stands out from other ferns due to its glossy evergreen foliage.

Leatherwood Ferns thrive in cool, sheltered environments with bright, indirect light and moist, fast-draining soil, making them a perfect choice for your rain or water garden habitat. Mature Leatherwood Ferns can reach 3 feet tall and wide when grown in ideal conditions. This plant's underground rhizomes can fill a 5-square-foot space with lush, glossy green growth. Each ornate Leatherwood Fern frond can grow from 2 1/2 feet long to 8 inches wide and bears a leathery texture. When mature, this elegant fern bears an arching, vase-like shape. Leatherwood Fern forms in large clumps and does not spread. The Leatherwood Fern's foliage in most regions retains its color during winter. Leatherwood Fern is best grown in full to partial shade and average to moist soil.

The Leatherwood Fern is delicate-looking and durable, making it a good choice for planting in challenging locations. Leatherwood Fern grows best in warm, humid environments and is adaptable, yet it will look and grow its best in its ideal planting conditions.

Care and Maintenance

Leatherwood Ferns grow best when exposed to indirect bright light since the full sun will scorch their delicate fronds. Plant your Leatherwood Fern in rich, organic soil that drains well in a sheltered location with light humidity and good air circulation.

Considerations

Leatherwood Fern is an easy-to-grow evergreen. Its fronds show light green when young, then turn into a bluish green color when the plant matures, adding color and texture to your home garden all season. Leatherwood Fern looks terrific planted with Hostas. It also makes a dependable border plant in woodland settings. Poor drainage and too much moisture can cause fungal issues that can impact your Leather Wood Fern. Always water your Leather Wood Fern at the base of the plant, directing the water toward the roots without wetting the foliage.

For a verdant home garden all year, make Leatherwood Fern a choice for your landscape today.
