Lily Of The Valley 3 For $13.99 Description

Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley, also known as Convallaria majalis botanically, is a woodland flowering plant with pendent, bell-shaped white flowers with a sweet scent that blooms in the spring.

Native throughout the cool regions of Asia and Europe, it is also known as the American Lily of the Valley in the United States. Other names for Lily of the Valley are May bells, Our Lady's Tears, Mary's Tears, Apollinaris, Glovewort, and Muguet. Lily of the Valley bears foliage that is reminiscent of some lilies, with green leaves that grow from 5-10 inches long and 1 to 3 inches wide that arch from the center of a clump. Petite, white, fragrant flowers appear on long stems on the clumps in spring, while in fall, orange-red berries appear. As a hardy ground cover that spreads gradually and forms dense colonies, Lily of the Valley is one to consider in your garden landscape.

Care and Maintenance

Lily of the Valley can be planted from potted nursery plants, root divisions, or seeds in the fall and spring. Lily of the Valley will flourish in almost any spot with some shade and looks lovely under trees that require some decorative touch at their base. Plant Lily of the Valley rhizomes 6 inches apart with the growth buds in the soil at least 1/2 inch deep. Once established, Lily of the Valley plants do not require much maintenance. This plant does not present issues with insects or disease yet must be watered during dry spells. When flowering has decreased on older plants, dig them up and divide them to establish new growth. Lily of the Valley thrives best in organically rich soil with good drainage, yet this plant can grow in a range of soil, including clay soil and acidic to neutral or slightly alkaline soil, too. Soil should be moist but not soggy.

 Considerations

Lily of the Valley should not be consumed by humans, dogs, cats, and horses. It will attract pollinators like butterflies and bees due to its sweet fragrance. Plant some Lily of the Valley in your garden oasis today for a lovely sweet-smelling hardy flower with terrific visual appeal.
