Description

Lily of the Valley is a fragrant, low-growing ground cover that makes a great addition to any garden

especially if planted under a tall tree where other plants may not grow, or you need coverage. Lily of the Valley are evergreen plants and survive without much sun exposure. The plant is hardy, but the flowers are delicate and pretty and add color to your garden. They flower in May and June and make a great addition to weddings during those warm months. One of many great things about the lily of the valley is that it requires very little maintenance. These plants are native to the northern hemisphere and thrive in cooler climates with moist soil. They're slow-growing and mainly spread by underground rhizomes, which means they're unlikely to take over your garden's space.

Lily of the valley has vibrant white blooms amidst vibrant green leaves

As spring blooms begin to fade, they create a sea of sweetly scented, bell-like white blooms nestled in the mounds of dark green foliage. Lily of the Valley, also known as May Lily, is a charming native perennial that grows in abundant clusters. Its narrow, green leaves produce dainty white bell-shaped flowers in mid to late spring with a sweet lemony fragrance. Lily of the valley spreads quickly by underground rhizomes. Flourishing from USDA Zones 2 to 8, May Lily is perfect for borders, edgings, and ground cover and also beautiful when used in cut flower arrangements. The Lily of the Valley is up there with the most beautiful spring-flowering bulbs. The dainty, pale-pink, bell-shaped blooms that smell like Lily of the Valley appear from April to June on slender but sturdy stems above a carpet of glossy green leaves. This North American native grows only 8 inches high and is a perfect choice for adding a splash of pastel color to a woodland garden or planting in containers. Convallaria spreads quickly to cover a large area, so use it as a ground cover or in pots.
