Sheet Moss is a unique plant. Sheet Moss has been used by gardeners since the mid-1900s, revolutionizing the way we grow plants.
This moss possesses a fantastic ability to manage water and contain nutrients that leach out of the soil while improving the texture and consistency of the earth.
Sheet Moss is decayed fibrous material that forms when mosses and other living matter decompose in peat bogs. The unique difference between Sheet Moss and different organic composts is that this moss is composed mainly of moss. Sheet Moss decomposes without the presence of air, slowing its rate of decomposition, so it gains only a millimeter of depth per year. Most Sheet Moss in the United States has been harvested from bogs in Canada under strict regulations. Sheet Moss is terrific as a soil amendment or for use in your garden landscape to provide nutrients and moisture to other plants.
Gardeners use Sheet Moss for soil amendment or as an ingredient in potting soil. Sheet Moss is ideal for plants such as blueberries and camellias with a high acid pH. Sheet Moss does not break down quickly, so one application lasts several years. Sheet Moss contains no harmful microorganisms or weed seeds. This moss holds its weight in moisture, releasing moisture to its roots as needed while providing nutrients to the soil.
Sheet Moss, made up of long, fibrous strands of plant material, should not be confused with regular Sheet Moss. Florists use this moss to line baskets or add a decorative touch to potted plants.
Sheet Moss can be used as a ground cover in gardens with bald or barren patches. It is terrific moisture and nutrient-providing source for plants and flowers that need extra compost. When using Sheet Moss in this capacity, your home garden landscape will look lush and vibrant all year long. It is a must-have in any garden where you want to add lushness and vibrancy.
