Red Maple Live Stakes Description

The Red Maple Live Stakes

Red maple, or Acer Rubrum as they are scientifically known, is also called the water maple, swamp maple, and soft maple.

A garden staple worldwide, the Red Maple is native to North America. The tree is best planted in urban and rural areas. The Red Maple is a large tree whose trunk grows 25 - 35 inches around. Bearing a height of 40 - 60 feet at maturity, the Red Maple is a fast-growing tree that can increase its height up to 2 - 3 feet per year. The bark is tough, smooth, and grey; new stems are green. The leaves are bright green, soft, and growing 2 - 7 inches in size. The Red Maple changes color with the season changing from green to shiny orange and bright red and yellow. The Red Maple's strong roots help to control soil erosion.

Care and Maintenance

The Red Maple roots need ample space in garden soils. Its earliest growing season is from May to October, while the leaves change color between fall and winter. Red Maple trees thrive best in well-drained, medium to wet soil, in full sun or partial shade. The Red Maple is a massive tree, providing soothing shade from the scorching sun. Plant your Red Maple Live Stakes in a partially shady area near plants that require shade to grow. Red Maple trees are disease resistant and will create sap. Its strong branches provide shelter to birds and other tree-climbing mammals.

Considerations

Red Maple has been identified by tree conservationists as the most prevalent tree in the eastern United States. It grows faster than the sugar Maple yet slower than the Silver Maple. The Red Maple tree prefers acidic to neutral soil and will not grow well in salty or alkaline conditions. If planted in dry soil, you will need to irrigate this tree, watering it slowly and deeply to ensure the soil stays moist. Once your Red Maple Live Stake is established, you can place a layer of organic mulch around its base to help lock in moisture.

Red Maple Live Stakes is an affordable and low-maintenance option for making your garden a colorful oasis all year long. The Red Maple tree is a hardy and beautiful addition to your home garden landscape.
