Description

Sassafras Tree is pest and disease-resistant

This tree is a beautiful source of shade and must-have ornamental features. These trees are pyramidal, with leaves between 4- to 8-inches wide. They seldom require pruning and are capable of withstanding drought. It is also pest and disease-resistant, making it a reliable addition to any home or lawn.

This tree is native to the Chesapeake region of Maryland. It is pyramidal in shape with branches that grow upwards and then angle outwards, forming a round-topped canopy. Sassafras leaves are green on top and smooth underneath - they have three distinct points and turn bright yellow in the fall. These trees typically reach heights of 60-feet tall with a spread of 40-feet. The flowers produce colorful fruit in the spring and then disappear quickly after the fruit ripens or "falls" from the tree to the ground, where wildlife quickly consumes it.

Native to many parts of the southeastern United States, sassafras trees provide gorgeous fall color. If adequately groomed, they appear tidy and sculpted year-round.

Pest resistant, it requires little maintenance. The unique feature of this ornamental deciduous tree is the thick trunk that houses large quantities of water, making it tolerant of dry soil conditions. It has exciting foliage with a pyramidal form with clusters of fragrant white flowers that turn into fruit.

Sassafras Tree is a very slow-growing tree

This tree is a classic shade tree. It is easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and resistant to pests and disease. It makes an excellent shade tree for your yard.

It is a deciduous tree from Southern Canada (Manitoba, Ontario, and Nova Scotia) south to northern Florida and Texas. It is so hardy that it can withstand temperatures as low as -35 degrees Fahrenheit or colder and have been reported to reach heights of 60 feet or even more! It is also a very slow-growing tree.

They are beautiful in the spring, with pink blossoms in 4-8 flowers clusters. These drooping clusters are similar to magnolia trees and grow in the open, spreading branches.

Chocolate and cinnamon with a hint of strawberry, the unique taste of sassafras teas are like none other. Made from dried roots, calyces (drupes), and fresh leaves of the Sassafras tree, sassafras teas have been brewed for centuries. Sassafras tea is a traditional American drink popular worldwide for its relaxing effect.
