Soft Rush Grass 25 Plants $79.99 Description

Soft Rush Grass

Soft Rush Grass, known by its botanical name as Juncus effusus, belongs to the Juncaceae family. Soft rush Grass is also called everyday rush, mat rush, and bog rush.

Soft Rush Grass looks like a grass vase with pretty little colorful, round dark green stems and has no leaves. Soft Rush Grass forms in solid bunches with green stems like chives. Native to the Northern United States and Australia, Softrush grass is a versatile plant that can grow in all garden soil types, thriving in moist to wet soils. Soft rush grass can also grow in standing water and on tropical lands. Primarily used in water gardens. Soft rush Grass blooms all year and will add a sensational appeal to your garden pond or fully landscaped water garden. The Softrush Grass plant is easy to grow, making it a popular choice as a pond plant.

Care and Maintenance

Soft rush Grass is an herbaceous plant that grows from 2-4 feet in height and width. The best blooming time for this plant is from June to September. Cut old Soft Rush Grass stems of the plant after the winter and before spring to encourage faster, better growth. The growth rate of this plant is rapid in moist gardens and full sun to part shade. Soft Rush Grass is a low-maintenance plant as it only needs wet soil. This plant's flowers are small yellowish-green, reddish brown, or purple. The flowers change colors based on the climate. A rhizomatous plant, Soft Rush Grass reproduces through division and seeds due to its fibrous root system. The root rhizomes are small and scaly.

Considerations

Soft Rush Grass is a thin, tuft-forming rush. It has smooth, green stems that are easily peeled to produce the pith. Soft Rush Grass spreads through its creeping rhizomes as with other sedges and rushes. It is best planted as a backdrop to other plants; Soft Rush Grass provides shelter to many small birds and mammals and helps with erosion. As an ornamental, Softrush grass is a delightful choice for your landscape garden.
