Stella De Ora Daylily 5 For $14.99 Description

Stella De Ora Yellow Day-Lily Stella de Ora Daylily

Yellow Daylilies, also known scientifically as Hemerocallis spp., are easy-to-grow perennials.

The scientific name means "Beauty for a Day" and "daylily." Perfect for borders and edging, tolerant of drought, and unaffected by high temperatures, the Stella de Ora Daylily can grow in most soils and goes well with blooming plants in other colors. The Stella de Ora Daylily blooms reliably in the spring through late summer. While the most common variety is the Stella D'oro or yellow daylily, daylilies come in shades of yellow, purple, orange, and pink ranging from one color with different color yellow stamens to more eclectic polychrome patterns or blooms with three or more colors.

Care and Maintenance

The Stella de Ora Daylily is resilient and gives birth to solid stems, known as "scapes," that grow continuously from the center of a grassy mound. Stella de Ora Daylily clumps grow up to five feet tall and span between two to four feet wide. When planting, space the bare roots at least three feet apart. Plant Day Lily bulbs or roots in early spring or fall one month before or after a hard frost. In northern regions, the Stella de Ora Daylily is best planted in the spring to ensure good root development during the summer before winter arrives.

When planting your Stella de Ora Daylily, create a two-foot plot and loosen the soil. Next, dig a hole at least one foot deep to accommodate the size of the bulb or roots, and fertilize with compost if the soil is poor. Plant the crown of the root an inch below the soil line, angling the roots outwards and downwards. Replace the soil, spread it evenly, and tamp down to get rid of air pockets. When the hole is two-thirds full of soil, water your Stella de Ora Daylily generously, fill the hole with the rest of the soil, then water the plant again.

Considerations

Even though the Stella de Ora Daylily is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds deer, it should not be eaten by your cat. Planting Stella de Ora Daylilys with other herbaceous flowering plants will add texture and color to your garden sanctuary.
