Texas Sedge 25 Plants $79.99 Description

Texas Sedge

Texas Sedge, also known as Carex texensis, is a beautiful grassy sedge with long foliage and lovely tiny flowers.

Care and Maintenance

An herbaceous perennial plant, the Texas Sedge has a spread of 1 foot, which includes leaves, stems, and rhizomatous roots. Native to the Northern United States, it is best grown in savannas, woodland gardens, and sandy lands on eastern shores. The Texas Sedge is a cold-season plant. Its stems are solid green in color; the leaves grow upward, growing to a maximum length of 1 foot. The leaves are simple and smooth, with a parallel mid-vein and fine-textured. The clumps of long foliage on the Texas Sedge are a verdant green. Texas Sedge grows very rapidly in the spring. The plant grows best in various soil types like forests, landscaped gardens, sandy areas of your garden, or decorative woodlands. The Texas Sedge is adaptable to all soil types, can tolerate maximum heat, and grows well in full sun. Once the plant establishes, it does not need regular watering, so it is an ideal low-maintenance plant if you establish it in the right soil. Since the Texas Sedge is drought and heat tolerant, it can even survive in dry shade.

Considerations

Texas Sedge has tiny unisexual flowers that bloom in early spring, from March through May. The flower grows in what are called spikelets. As they bloom, they gradually change color to copper and brown. As an ornamental plant, the Texas Sedge is capable of handling foot traffic if growing with pebbles, thereby creating a lovely walking lane. Texas Sedges also grow well under large trees to give one’s garden a delicate look and can provide a lovely border to a garden pond or fountain. They are drought and deer-resistant while tolerating challenging or dry conditions. As ornamental grass, the Texas Sedge should be high on your list of garden grasses. Easy to grow and maintain, Texas Sedge is a must for your home garden.
