Fall Plant Picks: Viburnum Dentatum Shrub

Fall is in the air! With its changing colors and cool temperatures, autumn has become a favorite season for people and wildlife. The leaves are falling faster than they can fully grow each year, and winter will be upon us before we know it. It's time to get your fall plant picks ready to make sure your garden isn't one of those left bare by the end of summer. Viburnum dentatum shrubs are uniquely well suited for this time of year. Their flowers are beautiful, their foliage is bright, and their role in folklore is significant. This article will help you decide which viburnum plant to plant this fall.

 Viburnum plant description

Viburnum dentatum has some interesting folklore. The plant is a gift from the fairies, who used its leaves to make magic wands in folktales. It's also considered an evergreen shrub with lovely flowers that goes well with other plants, such as peonies and grapes. Viburnum does have some essential requirements for successful growth, so you should not plant it during the summertime in most places. That is a perfect time of year to plant this shrub because it can thrive during cooler weather in autumn.

Viburnum Dentatum can grow up to 15 feet in height

Why viburnum is a perfect Fall plant

Viburnums are best-suited for fall because of their vibrant colors. Vibrant red, orange, and yellow flowers will stand out in the landscape as the leaves change color. Also, viburnum plants will mature in a shorter amount than other plants, perfect for those who want to get their garden ready before winter sets in. Another reason why viburnum is perfect for fall is that they are shrub which means they can grow up to 15 feet in height. That makes them perfect to use as hedging while you finish your garden beds and build your winter home base. With its uniqueness and quick-growing capabilities, this plant makes an excellent addition to any garden this fall!

The best viburnums to plant this fall

The best viburnum shrubs for fall planting are Viburnum dentatum, V. lantana, and V. opulus. These shrubs have a variety of uses ranging from ornamental to medicinal. One of their most important uses is in folklore. The leaves of these shrubs are used as a remedy for warts and other skin infections like ringworm and athlete's foot. They also take center stage in the classic New England witch's brew, where they provide beautiful blue-purple color to the otherwise brown-colored concoction that witches use to cast hexes on people. If you want something that will be an eye-catching addition to your garden this fall, try one of these three viburnums!
