White Dogwood Seedlings Description

White Dogwood Seedlings

White Dogwood Seedlings, or Cornus florida as it is known botanically, is an easy-going ornamental that, when planted correctly, will bring much beauty to your home garden sanctuary.

Native to the United States and East Asia, this tree bears showy white blossoms in the spring and is a favorite of gardeners everywhere. Cornus is a genus of about 30–60 species in the family Cornaceae. White Dogwood Seedlings are distinguished by their blossoms, berries, and distinctive bark. Most of these species are deciduous trees; however, a few are nearly herbaceous perennial subshrubs, while others are evergreen

White Dogwood Seedlings have open clusters of white petal-bearing flowers. This tree bears simple, un-toothed leaves with curving veins approaching the leaf margin. White Dogwood Seedling flowers are tightly clustered and surrounded by four to six large, white petal-like bracts. Drupes of the White Dogwood Seedling fruits show a bright red and are edible to wildlife. White Dogwood Seedling drupes are also made into vitamin C, which is better for human consumption.

Care and Maintenance

Plant your White Dogwood Tree in the spring, when the soil is moist and before tree growth begins. Choose a site that receives dappled shade and remove debris, weeds, and turf grass. Dig a hole that is two-thirds the depth of the root ball. Gently pull the roots apart, and place the ball slightly above the level of the surrounding soil. Fill in with soil, and tamp down to eliminate air pockets. Soak the ground with water and apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch several inches from the trunk to help retain moisture.

For planting White Dogwood Seedlings in a row, plant them 5 feet apart from the center of each trunk. White Dogwood Seedlings are relatively low-maintenance yet must be well-watered. White Dogwood Seedlings thrive best in dappled shade and require four hours of direct sunlight daily. These trees are adaptable to all types of soil yet flourish best in moist, loamy, slightly acidic soil. White Dogwood Seedlings have shallow roots, so they need to remain moist yet should not be left in sitting water.

White Dogwood Seedlings attract many pollinators. They are a lovely sight to behold in full bloom and will be the highlight of your garden.
