Wild Aster Plant 4 For $14.99 Description

Wild Aster Plant

The Wild Aster Plant, or Aster as it is known botanically, is a perennial flowering plant in the Asteraceae family of plants.

Its genus name of "aster" means "star" and refers to the starlike flowers these plants create, which give this plant the name of starworts and frost flowers. A perennial flowering herb, the Wild Aster Plant is an essential late-season bloomer in North America and Europe. This plant bears attractive pastel-colored flower heads that range from pink to white to blue to purple, showing a halo of bristly ray florets surrounding large pappus bristles. The genus aster is Ancient Greek for the word "star," referring to the starlike shape these plants bloom.

Wild aster plant care and maintenance

Wild Aster Plants thrive best in full sun in well-drained, damp soil. This plant is drought tolerant and grows best when left alone. Use Wild Aster Plants in front of other perennial wildflowers, against a shrub border, or at the base of a taller shrub. Wild Aster Plants are hardy and can withstand frost and temperatures of -10°F. With their daisy-like flower heads, Wild Aster Plants bring delightful beauty to your garden landscape. This perennial thrives best when planted in spring or fall. Asters do best in full sun in moist loamy, well-drained soil. Never plant your Wild Aster in wet clay soil since this will lead to root rot. Also, dry sandy soil will cause your Wild Aster Plants to wilt, so mix a good compost of 2 to 3 inches into the ground before planting.

Considerations

Plant your Wild Aster at least six weeks before the first frost to allow the plants to establish. Wild Asters Plants will enliven your garden in late summer through autumn, providing late-season nectar for bees and butterflies. Growing upright, Wild Aster Plants range from 1 to 6 feet tall. Wild Aster Plants are suitable for borders, wildflower gardens, or rock gardens. As a valuable pollinator plant, cardinals, chickadees, finches, nuthatches, and many other seed eaters will flock to your Wild Aster Plants.

Wild Aster Plants will bring color and beauty to your garden all year.
