Golden Ragwort Description

Golden Ragwort Plant

Golden Ragwort is a perennial in the Asteraceae (daisy) family. In the wild, it grows in swamps, forests, swamps, and ravines, in eastern North America as an herbaceous flowering plant.

Golden Ragwort bears beautiful gold-yellow flowers with broad, dark green, heart-shaped leaves that form the basal foliage. In woodland gardens, it is a terrific choice as a ground cover, along borders, or in wet, shady areas.

Golden ragwort plants care and maintenance

Golden Ragwort is best planted in full sun to partial shade in average, medium to wet soils. Forming a thick spreading mat in the spring, Golden Ragwort is attractive to many pollinators. This plant's blooms will also grow in the shade, adding brightness to darker spots in your garden landscape. Golden Ragwort blooms in the spring and has a long blooming period, lasting up to one month. When the flowers die, cut them back to the stem to keep your garden from appearing unkempt, and leave the seeds for the birds.

Golden Ragwort presents no severe problems, yet it can be weedy. This plant's flowers consist of yellow petals radiating out from a yellow disc. Stalks can be 1 to 3 inches across and can reach upwards to 2.5 feet tall. The Golden Ragworts' flowering stalks, in contrast to the basal foliage, have a few alternate long oval leaves, providing a nice visual contrast to its much broader basal leaves.

Considerations

The Golden Ragwort Plant is an excellent choice for dense-growing ground cover. Its dark green foliage remains year-round and spreads moderately. In the springtime, your Golden ragwort Plant will draw butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects to its lovely golden flowers.

Golden Ragwort is a very adaptable plant that will adjust to its growing environment. It looks amazing as borders in butterfly gardens. Plant it in containers to brighten up the dull corners of your garden sanctuary. You will also find that Golden Ragwort is resistant to deer, rabbits, and most other garden pests.
