The Hay Scented Fern is a perfect addition to your garden, especially where lots of ground cover is needed.
This fern will showcase deep green leaves that turn into a greenish-yellow in the fall. Hay Scented Ferns grow as one group rather than in clumps like other ferns, with fronds reaching 2-3 feet tall and spreading up to 5 feet. Hay Scented Ferns give off a smell like fresh-cut grass or rolled hay when the plant is crushed. Extremely hardy, the Hay Scented Fern grows well in its native environment in the eastern states of North America. This plant spreads rapidly, so planting it as a solo pant or spaced away from other Hay Scented Ferns is recommended.
Hay Scented Ferns do not require much sunlight, so planting them in the shade or partially shaded areas is perfect. The Hey Scented Fern can be planted in the sun if the soil stays watered. Hay Scented Ferns are aggressive and will quickly overtake more delicate plants, so it is best to plant them alone or with other Hay Ferns in a grouping. These ferns grow best in acidic, moist soil and only require water if their dirt dries. The Hay Scented Fern spreads, so the more space you give it, the more it will grow. To thin out the Hay Scented Fern, remove dense growths to keep this fern within the design you create in your garden. The Hay Scented Fern repels rabbits and deer both and gives your garden a lovely natural appeal.
Hay Scented Ferns are perennial, so they grow back annually, even though they appear dead in the colder weather. This hardy fern will continue to bloom for up to 10 years after it fully matures. The Hay Scented Fern will enjoy any outdoor that other plants may find difficult to thrive in. The Hay Scented Fern will add beauty and interest to your home garden.
