Virginia Creeper 3 For $11.99 Description

Virginia Creeper

The Virginia Creeper, known botanically as Parthenocissus quinquefolia, is also known as the victoria creeper, five-leaved ivy, five-finger, and woodbine.

A relative of Boston Ivy, Virginia Creeper is a fast-growing vine-type plant used for ground cover on trellises or stone walls. Supported by its clinging tendrils, it bears five leaflets that change color from vibrant green in the summer to a reddish-orange or burgundy color in the fall. In addition to climbing any surface, Virginia Creeper will grow on rock piles, stumps, and other garden objects. It is an efficient plant for fighting soil erosion when left as a ground cover through sucker discs at the end of the tendrils. The Virginia Creeper bears greenish-white flowers that bloom in late spring and may last through summer; buried among this plant’s compound leaves that grow up to 6-inches long. Once the flowers disappear, Virginia Creeper will bear tiny blue-black berries, which the birds love, yet should not be eaten by humans.

Virginia creeper care and maintenance

As an ornamental plant in your home garden sanctuary, the Virginia Creeper is an easy-to-care-for plant that must be grown in loamy, clay, or sandy, well-drained soil. Plant Virginia Creeper in partial to full sun. Virginia Creeper’s need pruning once in a while to maintain the size you want. Virginia Creeper can spread up to 50 feet tall and10 feet wide.

It must be watered regularly during your Virginia Creeper’s first growing season, with deep watering. Once established, it will only need occasional deep watering unless exposed to extreme heat, in which case your Virginia Creeper will need water more frequently.

Considerations

Consider planting your Virginia Creeper in large garden containers near a trellis so it can wrap its tendrils around it for a stunning visual effect. Train your Virginia Creeper plant as you want it to grow; otherwise, it will sprawl rapidly. You can also plant it on a garden arbor, pergola, and fence. Ensure there is ample height and width for this plant to latch onto.

Virginia Creeper is a beauteous plant that will add a lush appeal to your garden.
